West Indies vs Australia Preview - Touring Side Backed for a Commanding Start
The West Indies kick off their home series against Australia with fresh leadership at the helm. Roston Chase has taken over the captaincy from Kraigg Brathwaite, who stepped down earlier in 2025 after three years leading the side.
The Windies’ test form has declined recently, failing to win a series since their 1-0 triumph over Zimbabwe in early 2023.
Since then, they’ve failed to win in seven successive test series without a win, suffering five defeats and drawing three.
The West Indies have shown some promise with back-to-back 1-1 series results against Bangladesh (home) and Pakistan (away).
Australia arrive in the Caribbean on the back of a fine run of test cricket, and still holds the top spot in the ICC rankings.
The Baggy Greens secured three consecutive series wins between 2024 and 2025. Their streak began with a 2-0 sweep of New Zealand, followed by a 3-1 series win over India on home soil.
Pat Cummins’ men then eased past Sri Lanka with a 2-0 result. However, their momentum was briefly halted in June when they were defeated by South Africa in the ICC World Test Championship final.
Verdict
The West Indies are in a rebuilding phase and unlikely to have the firepower to challenge a confident and consistent Australian side. After their disappointment against South Africa, the Baggy Greens will be keen to bounce back with a dominant performance.
